A BUDGET THAT WORKS FOR WORKING PEOPLE

Having grown up in a household that lived paycheck-to-paycheck, Sean understands how much every dollar matters for most Connecticut families.

That’s why as State Representative and chair of the legislature’s Finance Committee Sean worked with Governor Lamont to pass the largest tax cut in state history and a state budget with historic investments in Connecticut’s people and communities.

He championed and passed the first Child Tax Rebate which sent $250-$750 to the families of nearly 370,000 Connecticut children, suspended the gas tax to protect drivers as gas prices spiked, expanded the Earned Income Tax Credit, and cut car and property taxes.

As Comptroller, Sean will use his knowledge of the budget to look out for taxpayers and fight for a budget that works for working people by finding savings, advocating for further middle class tax cuts and recommending ways we can improve Connecticut’s fiscal health.

AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE FOR ALL

Health care is a human right and yet far too many people in Connecticut cannot afford or access that right.

As chair of the legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee Sean passed landmark laws codifying the Affordable Care Act into state law, protecting people with pre-existing conditions, prohibiting mental health discrimination and capping the cost of insulin. He took on the special interests and has been the lead sponsor of legislation creating a Public Option for health insurance here in Connecticut.

Sean will use the power of the Comptroller’s office to lower costs, create new options for affordable health insurance and will not rest until every person in Connecticut has access to the quality affordable health care they deserve.

PROTECTING OUR PLANET AND DEMOCRACY

Here on the shoreline, we know that climate change is not only real but a real threat to our beautiful communities. To meet this crisis, Sean supports Connecticut's ambitious goal of reducing carbon emissions by achieving a carbon-free power grid by 2040, investing in alternative energy sources like water and wind, strengthening our shoreline through prolonged planning and resiliency measures and finding sustainable solutions like reducing our reliance on single-use plastics.

When it comes to protecting and strengthening our democracy, Sean believes in making it easier—not harder—for people to participate in the process. As our Representative, he has advocated for creating both early voting and no-excuse absentee ballot voting in Connecticut.

MAKING OUR COMMUNITIES SAFER

As our Representative, Sean has consistently advocated for common sense gun safety measures to make our communities safer.

In the wake of a terrible tragedy, Sean worked with Guilford parents Kristin and Mike Song and Republican Rep. Vincent Candelora in 2019 to write and pass "Ethan's Law" in honor of their fifteen year old son Ethan. Because of the law, all firearms in Connecticut must now be safely stored in homes with minors.

CONTINUE CONNECTICUT'S COMEBACK

After years of challenges, Connecticut’s fiscal health is improving and our economy is growing thanks to reforms championed by former Comptroller Kevin Lembo and put in place in recent years.

Sean will work to safeguard Connecticut’s Rainy Day Fund, continue paying down our debt and advocate for policies that continue Connecticut’s fiscal turnaround.

A SECURE RETIREMENT FOR ALL

After a lifetime of working to stay afloat, every Connecticut worker deserves to retire with dignity. Sadly, the average American and Connecticut resident has not saved enough for retirement. As Comptroller, Sean will work tirelessly to promote the new MyCTSavings program which allows Connecticut workers without a workplace-based savings option to set up one through the state.

STANDING UP FOR WORKERS

As a legislator, Sean always stood with working people and voted to raise the minimum wage and create paid family medical leave.

He will work as Comptroller to expand funding for the Premium Pay program to ensure Connecticut essential workers who risked their health for us during COVID-19 get the thanks and support they were promised.
